At the beginning of the 20th century, these were simple cylinders made of metal or plastic.It would seem that there was nothing special – but it was with them that the era began in which curls became a symbol of femininity and style.
The real evolution of curlers began in the 1950s and 1960s. Flexible shapes, different sizes and materials appeared – now there was an approach to any type of hair.
These advanced tools not only made curling more convenient, but also allowed you to experiment with your looks. And in the 1980s and 1990s , curlers experienced a real boom: large, voluminous curls took over fashion, and perms became an almost mandatory procedure for every fashionista.
The process was not easy: washing the head, curl it with curlers, applying the composition, then neutralizing. But the result was worth it. Moreover, the size of the curlers directly affected the shape of the curls – from elastic rings to soft waves. During thesen same years, perming ceased to be an exclusive salon service. Thanks to home kits, any woman could do a perm in her bathroom– all it took was a little patience and accuracy.
Today, fashion has become more diverse, and permanent curling is no longer so popular. But vintage curlers have not gone into oblivion. They are still used by stylists to create retro looks inspired by past eras.Â
