In 1987,a young Swiss woman named orinna Hofmann went with her fiancé Marco to distant and exotic Kenya – on a safari , as they had long dreamed of . And there she did not meet him.

Tall ,with a proud bearing and skin the colour of red clay, he stood by the fire of Samburu tribe ,close relatives of the Maasai. His name was Lketinga Leparmoriyo. One look was enough to fall in love. The girl left her boyfriend for an African. But starting a relationship with a man from a tribe living according to ancient traditions turned out to be not as romantic as she had dreamed.

Lketinga was unyielding and direct. To her complaints – whether about the heat, the flies or the strange customs – he responded with restraint, almost difference:

–If you don’t like it, go back to your Marco. But Corinna was stubborn. She sold her business in Switzerland, gave her up old life and moved to a Kenyan village, where she opened a grocery store. Over time, she received citizenship and became one of the Samburu – as much as that was possible .

A new life began.A straw hut – manyatta, a kerosene lamp, cold water, hand washing ,no usual amenities, medicines or even toilet paper. But she accepted this too much .

When their daughter, Napirai, was born, everything changed. It was as if a demon had entered Lketinga . He suspected that the child was not his .

He began to be jealous, especially of the men who came to the shop. 

Two years later,in1990,she couldn’t Take it anymore. Taking her daughter, she fled to Europe – to peace and order, far from cruelty and mistrust.

Fifteen years passed .In 2005 ,while working on a film based on her book, Corinna returned to Kenya. She met an aged Lketinga.

And strange enough ,he had almost forgotten her escape . Over the years, he had married three times and lived his own life.
