Grandma Spots Little Girl With Cat in Rain: When Grandma Hears Her Story, She Almost Faints
A heavy rain fell on the city. Water was dripping from the covered stalls, and the few customers hurried to take shelter under umbrellas. An elderly woman named Marie was selling apples, pears, and plums at the market as usual. She was there every day, in all weathers, and had long known all the regular customers.
But that day, her attention was drawn to someone she had not seen before.
At the other end of the square, right in the pouring rain, stood a little girl – no more than seven years old. She had no umbrella, her hair was soaking wet, and she was wearing an old dress that clung to her body. In her arms she was clutching a trembling gray kitten tightly to her chest.
Marie immediately came out from under the awning and, covering her head with a scarf, hurried to the child.
“Girl, why are you standing in the rain? Are you alone?” she asked.
The girl looked up at her with frightened eyes.
“My cat… he was scared. I didn’t know where to go…” she whispered, looking at the animal.
Marie carefully took the girl by the shoulder and led her under the canopy.
“Where are your parents?” the grandmother asked quietly, wrapping the child in her cape.
After what the girl told, Marie turned pale, her heart began to beat anxiously. She almost fainted.Continuation
The girl’s mother died a year ago, and her father… First he started drinking a lot, then he started bringing “friends” home, quarrels and shouting became commonplace.
A few days ago he left – “on a business trip”, he said. But he didn’t come back. And the night before, some man got into their apartment.
The girl hid in the closet and heard him rummaging around the rooms. When he left, she took her kitten and ran out of the house. Since then, she wandered the streets.
“I was afraid to go back there,” the girl finished and lowered her eyes. “It’s dark there, and no one will come.”
“Oh, my God…” she whispered.
Later, already warm, at Marie’s house, over a cup of hot tea, she called the police. It turned out that they were already looking for the girl – neighbors reported suspicious activity at night and a missing child.
Someone actually broke into the apartment: probably one of my father’s “friends,” who decided that he could make some money.
The girl was temporarily placed in an orphanage, but Marie began to apply for guardianship. It seemed to her that fate itself had brought her to this girl on that rainy day.
