It was drizzling lightly that day. The air was cool and the road was shining in the headlights. I was just a few steps away when it happened. A scene I will never forget.
A small boy, clearly lost in his own thoughts, stepped out onto the road. The car was speeding, too fast for the driver to brake. My heart sank. But before I could scream, my dog Rex took off.
I saw him come out of nowhere, run up and jump as hard as he could and push the kid to the side. He literally threw him out of the way of the car. Right on time. That moment… I saw it in slow motion.
What happened to him?..
Someone captured this moment: the boy’s frightened look, Rex’s paws pressed against him, and the car stopping a second later. I will never forget that look. The boy didn’t yet know that he had just escaped death thanks to my dog.
Rex was not an ordinary dog. Inquisitive, loyal, always alert. He loved to walk near the school, but never went far. He was an everyday companion. A friend.
😢 But that day, Rex was hit by a car. He saved a life… at the cost of his own.
I was there, holding him in my arms while we called an ambulance. He was fighting, brave as ever. But his wounds were too severe.
The people of the area loved him. They were touched by his act, as was I. They held a memorial evening, lit candles, shared memories. A memorial plaque was installed at the place where he sacrificed himself. So that he would never be forgotten.
💬 “Rex was more than just a dog. He was a guardian angel. My hero.”
🙏 Rex, you gave your life to save a child. And for that, you will forever remain in our hearts.
