“They tried to ruin my marriage.” That’s how Brooklyn Beckham, the eldest son of David and Victoria Beckham, described his parents’ actions in a six-page Instagram post accusing his family of manipulation and mistreatment spanning years.
The 26-year-old shared the statement on January 19, offering a rare, candid glimpse into the tensions within the famously polished Beckham family—tensions he slammed as “inauthentic” and “performative.”

“I do not want to reconcile with my family,” Brooklyn wrote, addressing rumors that his wife, Nicola Peltz, was to blame for the rift. “I’m not being controlled. I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
Brooklyn recounted a long history of emotional strain, which he says peaked during preparations for his 2022 wedding to Nicola. He singled out his mother as a primary source of interference, alleging she abruptly canceled her commitment to design Nicola’s wedding dress at the last minute, leaving the bride scrambling for an alternative.

He also claimed that, weeks before the wedding, both parents tried to pressure and bribe him into signing over rights to his name—a move he refused, noting, “My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since.”

Family tensions extended to seating arrangements, he said, when Victoria criticized his decision to place his grandmother Sandra and Nicola’s grandmother Naunni at the couple’s table, calling him “evil” for the choice.

Brooklyn also revealed a shocking incident during the wedding reception: his mother reportedly hijacked the couple’s first dance, dancing “inappropriately” with him in front of the guests, an experience he described as humiliating. The couple later renewed their vows to replace the negative memories with new ones.

He further accused his family of prioritizing public image over genuine affection, describing the Beckhams as a “business” where love was measured by social media engagement and brand visibility. He said that despite his and Nicola’s support of family appearances, Victoria refused to assist with her charitable efforts during the LA wildfires.

Brooklyn also pushed back against claims that Nicola controls him, insisting the narrative was manufactured by his parents to deflect blame and harm her reputation. “The narrative that my wife controls me is completely backwards. I have been controlled by my parents for most of my life,” he stated.

Reflecting on his decision to cut ties, Brooklyn said stepping away brought him relief and peace: “For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared. I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose.”

The post came after Brooklyn instructed his parents to communicate through his lawyer—a request they reportedly ignored—prompting him to speak publicly. He emphasized his desire for privacy and a healthy family life, stating, “All we want is peace, privacy, and happiness for us and our future family.”

In response, many netizens expressed support for Brooklyn, praising his courage in publicly defending himself and his marriage.
