Princess Diana was known not only for her kindness but also for her good sense of humor. She loved witty jokes and pranks. Prince William also once got into trouble.
Those who knew Princess Diana closely recall that she had a rather cheeky sense of humor, and on occasion, she would even tell a dirty joke. At the same time, the princess also had a knack for self-mockery. For example, she once gave radio host Graham Dean a mug with a caricature of herself.
“It was a white mug with a caricature of Diana on it. She was wearing a blue, low-cut swimsuit and holding a top hat and a cane. She bought the mugs at Kensington Market, apparently, and sent them to different people, and I was one of them ,” Dean recalled.
One day, Diana decided to play a prank on her eldest son, William (the surprise, however, was pleasant, but one can imagine the young prince’s confusion!).
When William was a teenager, Diana invited supermodels Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer to Kensington Palace.
“He was just about to come home from school. We got there before he got home and were like, ‘What are we going to do?'” Naomi recalled.

William, who returned from school, was no less confused when he saw his idols at home.
“[My mother] arranged everything, and when I came home from school, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, and Naomi Campbell were waiting for me at the top of the stairs. My room was covered with their pictures, so I blushed and didn’t know what to say ,” William recalled of that incident.
As embarrassed as he was at the time, Prince William called the moment “very funny” and fondly remembered his mother’s sense of humor.
Incidentally, this wasn’t Diana’s only prank. The princess also loved sending her son unusual postcards when he was at boarding school.
“I used to get cards from my mom at school. She’d usually find something, you know, a really awkward and really funny card, and then she’d write really warm, sweet things inside. But I wouldn’t open it in front of the teacher or my classmates, lest they read it ,” William shared.
