Sean “Diddy” Combs is on trial in New York City on federal accusations of s*x trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation for prostitution.
If proven guilty, the musician faces at least 15 years in prison and a maximum penalty of life in prison.
At the commencement of the trial, Diddy pleaded not guilty to the allegations against him.
Responding to a query from Fox News reporter Peter Doocy on Friday about his affinity with Diddy, President Donald Trump said he would consider pardoning the musician.
“Well, nobody has inquired. You had to be the one to inquire, Peter. I know people are thinking about it.
“First of all, I’d look at what’s happening, and I haven’t been watching it too closely, although it’s certainly getting a lot of coverage,” the leader said.
“He used to like me a lot, but I think when I ran for office, that relationship kind of fell apart, based on what I’ve read.
“When you run for office and do the right thing, you transform into a very different person. Our country is doing exceptionally well as a result of our efforts.
“If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me, it wouldn’t have any impact on me,” Mr. Trump added.
Suge Knight, the former CEO of Death Row Records, said to The Hill that if Diddy is found guilty, Trump may pardon him.
At the start of his presidency, Trump awarded hundreds of pardons, including nearly all Jan. 6 defendants.
The president recently made headlines with his pardons. He also pardoned reality TV personalities Todd and Julie Chrisley, who had been convicted of bank fraud and tax evasion.
Trump also pardoned rapper NBA Youngboy, who was sentenced on gun-related crimes.
“I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building — as a man, as a father, and as an artist,” he said in a statement.
