When I was a kid, I used to play treasure hunts with my friends. We would hide the “treasure” somewhere – usually a few coins or a bag of candy – and then go looking for it.
Spouses Matthew and Maria Colonna-Emanuel from New York also found a “treasure”, but in the form of old safes. Two of them, actually.
They discovered the safes several years ago, but thought it was an electrical box. However, one day, when they decided to open them, the couple made a startling discovery. After seeing the contents of the safe, they immediately called the police.
For several years, the couple thought that the safe they had found was simply an electrical box. But they were wrong.

It all started with a fire: trees in their garden caught fire. That’s when the couple noticed the safe. When a deer later came up to the safe and started sniffing it, they realized it wasn’t an electrical box at all, but a real safe.
One day they decided to open it. It was not easy – they had to use heavy tools. But the effort was worth it: the find shocked them.
“There were hundreds of diamonds and jewels inside, wedding rings and gold. It was incredible,” Matthew said.
There was also a lot of money there, but it was badly damaged by the moisture. But the main question was, who did it all belong to?
The safe belonged to a neighbor

Inside the safe, the couple found a note with an address. As it turned out, it was their neighbor’s address. Matthew went to see him to find out if anything unusual had happened there. The neighbor said that he had indeed been the victim of a robbery.
The robbery took place on Christmas Day 2011. The only item stolen was a safe, the contents of which were valued at approximately $52,000.
Eight years later, the neighbor finally got his stolen jewelry back. Matthew admitted that he was shocked by the story.
The couple didn’t think twice about keeping what they found, because it didn’t belong to them.
