At just 16 years old, Jared Watson managed to do what most teens only dream of—captivate not just his school, but the entire internet.
Born with spinal muscular atrophy and reliant on a motorized wheelchair, Jared took the stage alongside his father, who strummed the guitar as Jared delivered an emotional version of Randy Travis’s classic “I Told You So.”
Though he finished third in the competition, Jared’s heartfelt performance struck a chord online. The video spread rapidly, eventually reaching Randy Travis himself. The country star’s wife later shared, “Randy teared up when he heard it.”
That single night opened new doors for Jared—TV appearances, recording sessions, and even writing his own original songs.
“I thought it was just another performance,” Jared reflected, “but it turned into something that changed my life.”
His dad couldn’t be prouder: “He’s always had an amazing voice. Sharing that stage with him was one of the best moments of my life.”
